Beckie’s passion and focus have always been education.
Following a 30-year career as a high school English teacher in
San Marcos, Beckie went to work at Cal State San Marcos in the
College of Education. There, she supervised teacher candidates
in their clinical practice, served as clinical practice coordinator,
and taught English Methods to future teachers.
Beckie currently holds the office of president of the governing
board of San Marcos Unified School District, having served on the
board for one four-year term. As a member of the California
School Boards Association, Beckie receives ongoing training in all
aspects of school governance. In addition, she is a member of
Transformative Inquiry Design for Effective Schools and Systems
(TIDES), a University of California San Diego-based collaboration
of school board members, administrators, university researchers,
and teachers’ union representatives. Beckie is a 2010 graduate
of “Leadership North County,” a course designed by California
State University San Marcos for leaders in government, business,
industry, and education. The course enhances understanding of
the interrelationships of North County’s governance and
infrastructure systems.

Beckie earned her Master of Arts in English
from the University of California, Irvine, and
her Bachelor of Arts and Teaching Credential
from San Diego State University. She and Jim,
her husband of 30 years, are the parents of
two sons, Brady and Joe. Both sons were
students in San Marcos Unified School District
from kindergarten through 12th grade, subsequently attending
Palomar College and continuing to four-year universities.
